The Bidwell Pantry helps families put food on their table and clothes on their backs. By helping them in these specific ways, we strive to reduce the strain they're experiencing so they can focus on other goals that will break the cycle of poverty.

The Bidwell Pantry is open Monday - Friday from 10a.m. to 5p.m. Each person must check in before 4:30p.m. IDs are preferred but not required. If you don't have an ID, a limited amount of food is available. Then, you can select your own items or have one of our volunteers make the selections for you. After that, you'll check out and head home to enjoy your food and other items.

We are a no boundary pantry, so we welcome everyone, no matter where you live. No financial information is needed. We are also proud members of the Des Moines Area Religious Council and the Food Bank of Iowa.

This institution is an equal opportunity provider. View the full USDA Nondiscrimination Statement.

Pantry client

Glenda started coming to the Bidwell Pantry around 4 years ago, when she entered The Home Connection program. She has four adopted children (three boys and one girl all 13 years of age or younger). Glenda shared that her favorite things about Bidwell are the staff and volunteers. Many of the pantry guests are like family to the staff and volunteers here, and Glenda is no exception. Everyone loves visiting with Glenda when she comes. In addition, she has been writing up recipes that she makes with the food that she gets from the pantry and is hoping to release a Bidwell Pantry Cookbook! She has also received wonderful things for her home through the Essential Household Items Program. She also utilizes the clothing pantry and loves the variety of food from the garden that we have.
